    Need quick help!!! Sick Husky!
Sorry for the gross nature of the post I'm trying to be as accurate as possible. If you have a weak stomach it's probably best to stop reading now.

Our 2.5 year old husky started having diarrhea last night. She had diarrhea three times inside, and twice outside starting at about 8.00pm. It happens occasionally so we took care of her like we always do when she gets sick and did the usual nightly routine and went to bed. We woke up this morning to explosive diarrhea all over our downstairs and a pile of throw up. One of our friends was sleeping over and put Kaiya [our husky] in her kennel for the night and that's where all the "damage" was done. She never does anything in her kennel but sleep so that's how we know it's bad. We haven't seen her like this since we got her from the shelter we adopted her from and she was very sick when we got her. We already have a vet appointment but it's not until 3.00pm and it's currently 10.45am. It's the earliest we could get in and we don't know of any emergency type places that aren't an hour away and Kaiya gets really really stressed out on long car rides and the last thing I want to do right now is stress her out more.

We think she may have gotten in the trash or on the counter before they put her in the kennel [she's sneaky like most huskies] because in the throw up and some of the poo there was chunks of tomatoes and we had some queso dip. Is there anything we can do before the vet visit to help her? She's drinking water now and laying down after her bath and just relaxing. I want her to be ok. :(

Try to give her lots of water to try and flush her out.

O you probably shouldn't feed her anything. hope it's nothing serious but dogs are pretty tuff.

I would definately not feed her anything. Do you have a farm store nearby? I would try and get her some powder form electrolytes. You should be able to mix it in his water. Try to find a multi-species. I can't remember the brand, but we had it when I worked at tsc years ago.

They will have it for calves, but you will have to ask your vet if that is ok.

She's not remotely interested in her food. She's drinking water pretty well though. We had to give her a bath and she was licking the walls and tub. We had to stop her when we got the shampoo on her but we washed and re-filled her water bowl just in case anything got spilled into it.

I'm in the middle of a city I don't know of any feed stores out here. There are a few by my mom's house but by the time I get out there and back she'd already be at the vet and they already said they'd IV her when she gets in. Do you know if Petsmart would have it? There's one literally just down the street.

She's taking it like a champ so far. But she knows the drill by now from when she was sick when we got her. I'm just so worried because it's just like when we first adopted her from the shelter when she had three different kinds of worms and then got a staph infection from the shelter's clinic. She's chilling by my bed just relaxing right now.

Thanks for the help so far!

Sounds like she surely ate something that she shouldn't have! If it were me, I wouldn't give her anything other than plain water. I have a German Shepherd with a sensitive stomach and I never know what will 'put her over'.
You should be at the vet now...just looked at the time. Let us know how you made out!!
Isn't a full crate o'poop fun? Been there, done that :O

Waking up to a crying, talking husky covered in her own poo was just joyous haha :weirdface :O

Well, turns out she has intestinal round worms and intestinal whip worms. She loves to thoroughly inspect other dogs' poo and sometimes eat it, so they think that's how she got them. They gave us stuff to calm down her tummy and to kill both worms. They also gave us a pill that kills all her fleas and keeps fleas off her for a month. That will be lovely if it works! I'm sooo hoping it does... We also went ahead and got her another heartworm test and prescription thank god she was clear, after getting her with heartworms, it was the worst thing watching her suffer through the TREATMENT for it. They also gave us some stuff to calm her stomach while she's on all these meds for the wormies in her intestines. While she was there they gave her a shot as well to help calm her stomach and rehydrate her. We also learned that she's gained a lot of healthy weight since the last time she was at the vet and instead of a skimpy 33 pounds she's up to a perfect 40.5 pounds.

Thanks for all your help guys!! She's almost completely back to normal. We'll see how it goes after we give her the first round of all the meds tonight. >.<

That's good. I'm happy for her. Remember, they need that heartworm pill every month. The heartworm meds should also take care of other worms too. It's important to stay up to date on her vaccinations and such to keep her in good health. I'm suprised the vet didn't set you up with check-ups and a refillable prescription the first time.

Hopefully from now on she will live a healthy and happy life :)

She's up to date on all shots and we made sure the type of heartworm pills they gave us would prevent the roundworms and whipworms. I'm used to doing the heartworm pills with my mom's dogs when I was growing up. When we adopted Kaiya, we had to take her to the mandatory heartworm treatment at some affiliated vet. I hated them. They were very rude and acted like we were the ones that gave her heartworms the whole time. And they then wouldn't set us up with heartworm pills unless we set up another exam and heartworm test and then they'd give us the prescription. And for that exam was 10x more expensive than I'd ever heard of from taking my mom's doggies to the vet for the exact same thing. Keep in mind, the last time we went to see them was for a check up exam and a heartworm test to make sure the treatment worked. We promptly never went there again and the vet we found closer to our house is very nice and they even check out herps! Idk about where y'all are, but here, finding a herp vet is quite difficult... haha

The heartworm prescription is refillable this time. And we have to bring her back in a couple months. One of the pills we don't even give her for another three weeks.

I'm glad she's better, too! I missed my insane Kaiya-boo this morning/afternoon. I'd say $300 is a fair price for having my crazy polar bear back to normal.

Geez. That's insane. I hate it when vets do that. I had 2 week old lab puppies one time, and they ended up getting fleas (they were in an outside kennel). Mom was always treated but with it being outside the puppies contracted them. I went to a pet store to get some flea meds, but most of them are for older puppies.

I talked to a manager and he sent me over to a vets office to get some distilled stuff for them. I got there and they tried to tell me I needed to go back home, get the puppies, so they could have an exam before they would give me the flea meds. I pitched a fit. First of all, I was on my parents farm that was at least 45 min from there, one way, and it was 10:30 at night already. My vet was closer but didn't have overnight hours, but all my animals get their regular check-ups. I guess since I didn't have an account with them, meant I never took my animals in. Ugh! Needless to say, they decided grabbing two week old puppies, and mom, in the middle of the night wasn't such a good idea. I know they have the pets best interest in mind, but sometimes they take things too far.
