How do rats eat out of hoppers?
The food is bigger than the hole :O It's 1/4th inch hardware cloth, like other people's, but the lab block i got is too big for the holes, do they just like nibbl it through the holes or what?

they just get little bites of it at a time

You should be using 1/2 inch wire not 1/4, they can't eat very well through the 1/4 ;)

Wait... it could be 1/2nd not 1/4th. Its whatever size they suggested were right for rats. I think the 1/4th is supposed to be for mice.

yeah 1/4 works for mice, 1/2 is typical size for rats :)

Foods got to be bigger than the holes, that's the point. Cuts waste.

I don't use hoppers. I frankly have had great luck with well behaved rats and used tin rabbit feeders. I cut out openings in the rubs and hung them. I only put in what they needed for a few days just encase the females decided to hide the food.

My females are horders, if I did that I'd have starving rats :rofl:
