A very important question.
Piebald is the "correct" term I believe ;)
And yet if you search for "pied" on ks, you'll get two or three times as many hits! So I'm thinking "pied" must have at least some grass-roots support.
Piebald is the scientific term, people are just lazy(like me).
It's Piebald. We all know it. We call them pied because it's easier, sounds better, and works. Like calling an animal "Het" instead of Heterozygous. Piebald is correct, but we call it Pied, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Actually, according to Merriam-Webster, "pied" is perfectly legit as well: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pied :P

Partial leucism is also correct, but....too many syllables.
