    I always use side, only way I would do top would be if it was a humid hide and bellow the depth of the substrate.

    i usually do side also but i only say top because ive herd bp hatchlings will feel more secure if i do so

    Some people dont even give them hides and they're fine. My lesser has never had a hide and he's one of my best feeders.

    i also read that they feel much more secure with the hole in the top so thats what i did and has worked great

    I only give them hides if they show me they are going to be a picky eater, otherwise no hides in tubs.
    Most of my snakes have never seen a hide, but then they've been in tubs all their lives.
    In tanks are a whole diff story.
    I prefer to use side entry hides.
