Other ways to adhere uth???
I've read that you can adhere a uth using aluminum tape...has anyone done this? Is it true? Does anyone have any other ways to stick on the uth without using the actual sticky side of the pad? I'm planning on buying a second uth for my setup but I'm not sure where I want to put it, side or bottom, so it would be nice to be able to stick it on with something that can come off. Also would be helpful during cleaning.
If I do stick it on with tape or something does the paper backing need to be removed from the uth? What should I put over it if I have to remove it?
thanks for the help.
Re: Other ways to adhere uth???
I dont think the ones with the sticky bottoms would work all that well if you left the covering on them :/
But the majority of people here use flexwatt which we all (as far as I know) attach with aluminum tape.
Re: Other ways to adhere uth???
I've left the covering on some of mine before. Aluminum tape works fine but you will need to change it every time you take the pad off for cleaning and I think it is pretty expensive. I use it for my already-used UTH's on different enclosures and on my flexwatt.
As for placement, I would put it on the bottom of the tank, not the side (if that's what you're asking). The reason for this is because it will be more efficient in heating your snake for 2 reasons:
1. It will directly heat the stomach region to aid in digestion
2. It will heat the substrate. Glass is not a good conductor of heat and generally, substrates are much better than glass. Therefore, the heat will spread into the substrate and warm a bigger area and make a large warm spot instead of a small hot spot, which can hurt the snake.
Re: Other ways to adhere uth???
Furio's UTH had started to peel off a little, put some aluminum tape over pretty much the whole pad and rolled it out a bunch to make sure there were no bubbles and it's worked flawlessly for I'd say a good 6 months :) Hope this helps!

I'm trying to get my cool side to stay in the high 70's low 80's without a heat lamp. I've been having humidity problems so I ditched the lamp and bought a mini uth today for the cool side. Right now its taped on the bottom just so I can get a feel for if it will be to hot or what. I was thinking if its too hot that I could put it on the side for some extra heat.
Its been hooked up for a few hours and seems to be staying at 80. I have it on a rheostat and on low. Those UTH's seem to get so darn hot even on the rheostat.
Re: Other ways to adhere uth???
Has your humidity been too low or too high? One way to keep heat and humidity in is to tape tin foil to the underside of the lid. This will, in theory, reflect the heat back into the tank and eliminate some of the ventilation.

its been too low. tonite I made some cardboard panels with foil over them and so far its working great!

I leave the backing on UTH's and just place them under the tank. No need to stick them to the tank at all.

FYI, make sure your foil panels are taped on all 4 sides of the panel so the snake can't get between the panel and the lid. I just heard some loud foil rustling followed by a loud SPLASH!!! I looked at my BP's tank and found her in the water and the foil on top of her. She was able to get in between and it couldn't hold her weight lol. She's fine though.

Um,
Put the panels on the outside not the inside. :gj:
And there was something else.............. what was it?................ Oh yeah!
No tape inside a snakes enclosure!!!
