SAN FRANCISCO—After several hours of hearings, San Francisco officials have tabled a measure that would have banned the sale of pets, except fish, throughout the city.
During the hearings that began Thursday evening and ran into the night, supporters of the ban said animal shelters are overrun by people who buy hamsters, parrots, snakes and other animals from pet stores on impulse, then regret the purchase.
Under the proposal, San Francisco residents would have had to go outside the city to purchase pets.
Pet store owners argued against the measure, telling the city's Commission of Animal Control and Welfare that it would put them out of business.

oh ok so then thats a good thing, yes?

Good to a point. But any ban on selling of pets is bad. It starts as just a drop, but soon explodes into a full blown waterfall.
Re: San Francisco Pet Ban is TABLED
Told you it wouldn't go much further. :P I bet we won't hear anything more about this law, like probably 90% of proposed laws they present.

I know this policy, table the bill until the votes are there to pass it. I would not have let them table the bill. I would have demanded an up or down vote. Tabling a bill is nothing but a political ploy to allow the bill to be passed once the fervor has waned.
This procedure only proves that there is enough support to pass the bill. Not overwhelming support, but enough to allow it to pass when the time is right.
This is bad news in my opinion.
