Aquarium rock?

I haven't ever tried it but can you house ball pythons on aquarium rock? It would hold humidity well and cleaning it wouldnt be bad at all. Undertank heating would be radiated through it and heat lamp heat would spread also. Would it be harder to have a hot spot occur? Just a thought and I didn't know if any of you out there have tried it. Pro's or con's?

Eh, I wouldn't recommend it. It doesn't absorb liquid and if too much of it were ingested it might cause some problems.

I would stick with paper towels, newspaper, cypress mulch, or aspen. Lets leave the aquarium gravel for the fishies.

Yea like the above post stated i don"t think it would be such a good idea.

I nixed the idea pretty fast. I went back to newspaper and the snakes are just as happy as they were on pine shavings. I had a 125 with gravel in it and didn't know if anyone had housed snakes on gravel before. The tank is cleaned out and i will be getting the UTH on it this week and have snakes in it by the weekend. I have to make sure the thermostat has things the way I want it.

When I first got Cleo I tried using gravel as a substrate - it was a nightmare. :rolleyes:

The pee ran right through it, the poop stuck to it and spot cleaning was an exercise in futility. Also she got "scuffed" by it when rooting around and I got worried about her ingesting it when eating.

I was a bit "learning resistant" and tried quite a few substrates before realising newspaper simply worked best for me. :oops:

After thinking about it I remembered a boa that had came into the pet shop I used to work at 20 years ago. It had dust and dirt imbeded in it's heat pores on it's nose. We soaked it in a trash can for a hour and all the dust and dirt came out. It was a nightmare though.
