tubs for snakes

where do ya'll get 'em? i tried looking at walmart.com but i'm not finding what im lookin' for.
whats the best size to get for a youngster & something it can grow into.
i also want something clear so i can see my snake.
also, can uth's be used with plastic tubs?
what temp will cause warping/melting? so i know to avoid that temp...
how many holes do i need to put into the tub for ventilation/air flow?

This is just what I go by..

6 or 7 qt for Hatchlings
15 qt for 250-800 grams
32 qt 800+ grams

I use Sterilite latch boxes from Walmart. They have the regular tubs there as well. Just keep looking.. I'd be surprised if they didn't carry them at all.

Yes you can use UTH's on tubs.

Just try to achieve 88-92 hotspot and you'll be fine. This temp. will not melt or warp your plastic. Just be sure to use a reliable thermostat.

It depends on where you live and how high your humidity is. I have to put at least 3 rows of soldered holes on 3 sides of my tubs to achieve 50-60 humidity. Some people don't need any holes. I would start off with no holes and just poke a row at a time until your humidity is good.

As for airflow, the gap between the top of the tub and the top of the shelf is usually good enough.

whats the best size to get for a youngster & something it can grow into. 6qt hatchlings, 15 qt juveniles, 32 qt between 600-2000 grams and 40 qt 2000+ grams.

what temp will cause warping/melting? so i know to avoid that temp if your tub is melting by that point your snake has been cooked just keep the temps at 92 on the hot side and youll be fine
how many holes do i need to put into the tub for ventilation/air flow? air flow for oxygen isnt a problem cuz tubs are not air tight but for humidity your just gonna have to play with it, some people use 8-12 some need none. just set up your tub as normal and check it and add holes or tape them up as needed.

If you're using UTH you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE a thermostat. Because there is always the chance it gets too hot, kills the snakes, and sets fire to your house. Pretty remote, but use a thermostat.

Also, if you are just using a lone tub, you will either need to put something weighted on top or make a rack, on the longer tubs which only clip on the ends a large BP could push the lid off/get stuck between the tub and the lid.

As for air holes, you need some so it can have fresh air to breath but if you have a lidless rack (with the 1/8th inch gap) that isnt a problem, it becomes more of an issue of humidity, thats entirely based on you experimenting with the tubs prior to introducing a snake.

If you are only using one tub you can get vinyl straps and clips at walmart, I used to use them to hold the lid to my tanks down. Tubs are definitely the way to go, and I suggest one with a non-clear lid if you arent using a rack.
