Do males compete for mating rites?

A friend and I were talking and we got on the subject of breeding. I was wondering how males tend to act when the breeding season is effect. Do males get aggressive with eachother during this time?

Mine do nothing because they aren't together. I get them out and they sometimes crawl around on the floor together, but nothing happens. If they are housed together, two males can fight each other with or without a femal around.

My males act like they do year around with the possible exception of roaming more often.

Fighting each other from separate tubs would be a bit difficult :P

I have three 2008/2007 males housed together in a "bachelor tank" because I haven't gotten around to building a proper rack system yet. I make a point of feeding them separately, but otherwise they get along fine, with or without females. (They seem to have divvied up the older girls, actually: when I dump everyone in together on cleaning day, I'll come back 15 minutes later to find the males have all split up to pursue their chosen sweethearts.) Though they are all very, very eager to finally have some quality time with the females--I'm not sure if being around other bachelors keeps everyone on edge, or if they're just young and horny.

I have heard (via BHB) that if you introduce two males that don't know each other/aren't used to other males during breeding season, you will see some posturing. And that it's a good way to get reluctant breeders to take an interest in their job.

I meant in general...sorry bout that:rolleyes::). I read that once females lay a clutch, they tend to get aggresive in defending it...but I was wondering if males get aggresive towards handlers or anything else.

They are young and horny. Be careful, if things go wrong they could end up like ducks, forming gangs and raping the females.

Not that I have noticed. I think males are just lazy. They could careless about what's happening, they just want to sleep. Even when I put my male in with my female, she has to get him in mood by scenting. She's even whacked him on the head a couple of times. I thought it was funny. He didn't find it quite so hilarious. :)

I've not had a male get aggressive during breeding season,
and females only during the time they have their eggs.
I got bit twice pulling my female off her eggs this year :P

I would never keep them in the same enclosure for MANY reasons, but that's another thread ;)
It's not too hard to use a sterilite container during cleaning time :rolleyes:
*the exception to never would be hatchlings before first shed :)
