Humidity

Hey guys...

I was just wondering, what's a good way to raise the humidity in a glass tank enclosure? I'm starting to have some trouble keeping my humidity levels up since summer started ( I live in TX so it's getting really hot and dry here ). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A bigger water bowl, place a heat pad under water bowl, add damp sea sponges.

getting rid of any heat lamps will greatly increase your humidity.

Covering the screen top with foil tape or plexiglass will also help.

Cypress mulch is a good substrate for holding humidity.

When you say add sea sponges, do you mean in the water bowl or just generally somewhere in the tank?

I don't use a heat lamp, but have been putting damp cloths over part of the top screen of the cage to help. They just dry out while I'm at work, so hasn't been a long-term fix. Also, I use Aspen bedding, but is it good to keep part of it damp? I mean, wouldn't it grow mold or something?

Aspen molds fairly quickly. Cypress mulch is naturally kind of damp when you get it so giving it a light spray every few days will help keep your humidity up.

You don't want to keep it constantly damp.Give it some time to dry out before you mist again so that mold doesn't grow.

Oh ok...Where could I get some Cypress mulch then? Like PestsMart or Petco?

I am fairly certain that they sell it at petco or petsmart but it will probably be like $10 a bag. Home improvement stores might have some. Just be sure that it is 100% cypress mulch with no other woods mixed in. If you get it from somewhere other than a pet store it might be a good idea to bake the substrate before putting it in with your snake (kill any bugs).
