Re: Temp Drop for breeding
Bump.... Maybe I would have to post about babies hatching or eggs laying for response... just kidding. I wish I were a year ahead and had eggs now. This is an addicting hobby, but it takes a lot of patience.
I'm just wondering mostly about the temperature drop necessity. Mainly to decide on our snake room's temp control strategies...
How many people out there are successful at breeding year round?
Can you get the females to ovulate any time of year? If so, is it just temp. and lights on/off related?
Re: Temp Drop for breeding
I don't have enough experience breeding to really answer your question about the night drop. However, I have a female that developed follicles at the end of March. I bred her and she is going through the breeding cycle normally.
Re: Temp Drop for breeding
You are correct with being able to induce a breeding season with indoor conditions.
I wouldn't be the right person to tell you whether or not they breed better without cooling. I always cool my animals and never have a problem with them breeding. This year I bred 3 females, 2 of which have already laid, and the 3rd is due to lay on the 8th of July. In my experience cooling I've had great success. I do know people that do not cool and also have great success. I guess it's just a matter of opinion.
Hope this helped you out... I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in soon enough to give you the answer you are looking for.
Re: Temp Drop for breeding
Thanks for the replies. I'm a heating and cooling guy, and I've wondered about making it "autumn" in the spring or summer, to induce a breeding season artificially. I've only had BPs since Feb. Boy are they awesome, though!
Re: Temp Drop for breeding
Hi,
we already paired our mojo with a lesser, because we felt the follicles, and he hat sperm plugs. but we don't really cooled them down. they did a pairing, and i think in about a month we will know if it has worked.
but we had a strange spring this year, hot and cold and hot and cold, and although we have nearly constant conditions in the tubs and tanks, all of our animals are "crazy" this year,...
but we planned to cool them down in autumn,...
