Ball Python Pictures (after he ate)

Hi!

I took these pictures yesterday, after my male ball python ate two frozen - thawed adult mice. He has been off feed since November, and now that he is eating, I am so happy! Well, here he is, content, happy, warm, and slowly gaining weight. He was in his hide, but I went to go check on him.

Look at that food lump!

Oh, he will be getting fed in another five days, I'll take better pictures, and I'll try to take a video of him picking the mice up and dragging them in his hide.

I have a question for you. Do you just drop the mouse in the enclosure right on top of that substrate? If so, do you ever have issues of him swallowing a lot of that substrate when eating the mouse? I ask this because I have the exact same substrate for my bp and decided to feed him in a different container so he wouldn't swallow a lot of substrate.

Yes, I drop both mice in front of his hide (about 3-4 inches away), he will sniff both out, choose one, pick them up (and any, if not all, of the substrate comes off), and he will drag it into his hide, and then eat it.

You could also switch to paper towels, but I've never had any issues with aspen, and I prefer it over most other substrates.

Substrate ingestion is shouldn't be an issue. Whatever is stuck on the mouse is not enough to cause problems.

If you choose to do the "drop the f/t in the enclosure" method, you can lay down a piece of paper towel and just put the prey item on that.
