Egg Tub Temp Question

I have two probes inside the egg tub. One tells me that the temp is 87.6 and the other reads 88.2. I shot my temp gun on the substrate and it reads 89.5. The Helix is set to 89. I would like to incubate my eggs at 88.

Should I leave all alone or is the temp gun telling me the temp is too high? Any help would be greatly appreciated because my Pastel is laying eggs as we speak. YEA....

Personally, we don't put a probe inside the egg tub, we hang it from a shelf in the middle of the incubator. As long as the outside air is consistent you shouldn't have any issues. The temperature in the egg tub will vary slightly throughout the incubation process as the eggs heat up.

Of course, it also depends on what kind of incubator setup you are using.

I am using a mini fridge with a glass door for the incubator.

I may not have explained it well enough but the Helix probe is under the egg tub. (outside the tub) The temperature probes are on the inside and those are the ones that are giving me the different readings.

Don't put any probes in the tub even if it is just for a thermometer, it is not nescessary.I set my probe on the middle shelf as well and I use no fan.Set your thermostat at 88 and start the countdown.I have had 100% hatch rate by doing this except I set my thermostat at 89.I have had clutches hatch anywhere from 53-62 days at this temp.Keep it simple,I see and read how alot of people complicate incubation of eggs.

Check your thermometers accuracy with your temp gun.

I have the Helix set at 89 now. I am going to lower it to 88 and not worry about the the temp inside the tub. I will remove the thermometers and trust that everything will be fine.

I trust my thermometers readings more than what the thermostat says.
I use thermometer probes in my tubs, it's very reassuring to know the temp in the tub versus in the inc which can be very different than in the tub.
