What should eggs look like when candled right around the time they are supposed to hatch? Does anyone have a pic of a candled egg at 50+ days?

it's about as big as it's going to get in the egg. So when you candle, it will be mostly dark, if your light is powerful enough you will see them move around. I use a 3 watt led mini flashlight, with one bulb. once they come thru the egg, it's ok to look at them, but limit it, you don't want the hatchling leaving the egg before it's suppose too (very bad). good luck, the wait is almost over, Don

Mine have veins, but are still really light inside.. not dark. Doesn't look like theres much in there.

No my friend borrowed my camera.. will post asap. just wondering if they were still supposed to look all glow-y. not my first clutch, but first time maternally incubating due to my moving to a new house and moving the incubator and then having an unexpected clutch. Normally I dont candle my eggs the last few weeks in the incubator if they are looking fine. But these eggs have been stressing me out!

My first clutch is the same way. I was a bit worried when I candled around day 50?-not sure on exact day-and the eggs looked about 1/4 full. I figured they'd be at least 1/2 full by that time. The eggs were still nice and plump, had nice veins, and wiggly worms! I could make out the morphs inside if they pressed against the egg just right.
Its now day 60 and they've grown a good bit. Though... They still haven't pipped:rolleyes:
Good luck! It may just take a bit longer for your guys and gals as well.

I use a small mag light to candle and I can see pattern and everything. I have been able to make a pattern out since day 35 or so.

If you use a good light you can even tell which eggs are morphs for a lot of things. I have a 7 egg het lavender clutch that is on day 46 now and I can easily tell I have 3 lavenders. It helps resist the urge to cut when you already know what's in them.
