My piebald I got last week has been sleeping by he water bowl out in the open for a few days now....is this normal? I mean hes gone into his hide a few times were the heat is and he always goes back to the cool side. The hot side is 92 uth the cool side is about 78deg. Do you think hes just getting use to the new set up still. I know the breeder that had him before me kept him in a smaller enclosure. I have a big water dish for him since hes 730 grams, aspen bedding. Any suggestion? I've never had any of the balls I own do this. I mean I've seen him drink, hes alert just never had a snake stay on the cool side so much.

You may want to cut back on the heat a bit just to see what his reaction is.

Yes this is normal behavior for new arrivals. Temps are fine just give time to settle in.

Be sure not to have too big of enclosure or hides. Be sure temps are measured by digital and you have a t-stat controlling heat.

I'm sure he is fine, he's probably still getting used to the new surroundings. Sometimes some of my snakes will hang out on the cool side for a bit then move right back over to the warm side.

I have him in a rubber maid container thats about 3 feet long, 18" wide and about 6" tall. I have two hides and the water bowl in there pretty basic. I haven't been bugging him either, only weighed him when I first took him out of the box.

That is a huge enclosure for such a small snake. I would move him to a 32qt tub.

    I agree, try a 28qt instead.
