Proud new mama of a Crestie!
... And of course that comes with at least a question or two.
I've got the screen-top arboreal terrarium, all set up with a couple of live plants (non-toxic), a fake plant, a couple of climbing sticks, climbing log, and a coconut/soil mixture for substrate. I've purchased a special powdered gecko diet, which I mix up a small amount of every night in a tiny food bowl. A few 4-week old dusted (calcium with D3) crickets every couple of days, etc. I may buy some fruity sugar-free baby food soon and see how that works. And of course, I mist a few times a day.
He appears to be at least 4 months old (he clearly has his manhood ), not fully grown, and he's a very charming, cute fellow. My only question is this:
On the second evening after I had brought him home, I saw him lift his tail and wiggle his 'bum'. I remember the way a beardie looks right before and thought, "Oh boy, here comes the mess." And then, he reaches his head around and appears to "eat" his mess as it appeared. I'm not positive, but he was definitely licking SOMEthing up down there... :weirdface
Odd question, I know, but any idea as to what he was doing? Thanks, BP.net'ers! :D
Here's the handsome little devil.

Re: Proud new mama of a Crestie!
As for the booty shaking/licking, I'm not sure :/ Maybe he had an itch lol?
Congrats on your new addition! Cresties are awesome, and he's a cutie!
Re: Proud new mama of a Crestie!
Handsome devil indeed, :D
He's a lot bigger than my little dude at the moment. :)
I think the baby food is a definate no-no owing to the high sugar/ low nutrition mix - Look up MBD online and babyfood gets mentioned quite a bit (and not in a good way ).
Which powdered diet are you using? I'm using the two-part repashy mix now but plan on trying the one part version once this is used up. I have also got the Komodo brand with the gecko but liked the reviews on the repashy better.
As to the wiggle - he may have just been cleaning his "bits" if you get my drift. :ninja:
Emily ( mlededee ) is the person I keep bugging with crestie questions so hopefully she will be able to give you better answers. :D

Re: Proud new mama of a Crestie!
Nice looking boy. :)
Skip the baby food and just feed the Repashy crested gecko diet. I don't even recommend organic, sugar-free baby food--the CGD is a complete and balanced diet, so you really don't need to give them any sort of non-gecko food when they could be getting a nutritious meal that contains everything they need.
Sometimes males clean their hemipenes--that's what you saw him licking. Not the most polite looking thing, but I guess sometimes it needs to be done.

I would love to be able to hold my Crestie like that..but she is such a spaz, lol.
