Ok, I got my three 900 gram girls a week ago. The breeder I bought them from advised me they had not eaten in 3 weeks and he usually feeds them once a week (2 jumbo mice)......he didn't feed them because he thought he was going to ship them a few times. I fed each of them 1 small F/T rat and they ate just fine. I fed the bigger female another small rat two days later.
Today, one week later, I fed each of them 1 small F/T rat. They stayed at the front of the rack in strike position and two of them ate another small F/T rat. These rats are about 50-60 grams so the two of them ate about 100-120 grams in rats. Is that ok?
Also, I got two female pastels and one male bumble bee this last Saturday. The female pastel that is 900 grams ate a F/T small rat but the 1700 gram female did not.........she struck the rat and that was it. All three were fed live by the previous owner. The bumble bee was not interested at all but the breeder said he feeds him every other week (he is 700 grams) so he should be hungry next Tuesday. Since I just got them Saturday, and its only been three days with me, I don't feel I need to be concerned with them not eating. I know they are still getting acclimated......hell, I'm just glad one out of the three of them at a F/T for me!
Is it ok to feed my good eaters eat 2 F/T rats if they take it? Should I try one medium rat instead? I want my girls to get up to 1500 grams by Dec and I am pretty sure they will, but I don't and I won't jeapardize their health to make weight. Thanks for any advice.
