Advice on picking a hatchling carpet python?
Having seen pictures of the parents of a clutch and knowing that the hatchlings are in good health, eating well, etc. What else should I look for in a baby jcp that would indicate a bright adult? The clutch I'm interested in is from a local breeder and all if the babies are fairly dark brown with very pale and contrasting yellow markings. But, one female is almost black with very lemony colors showing through. Would a jcp already showing brighter yellow and black at this age (a month or two old) "burn out" color wise or is this a good indication of a bright adult?

Carpets go through a pretty good color change but they get lighter and brighter as they get older. Look for one with the cleanest pattern and the brightest colors.

Jungles colors tend to dull a little when they get older and become adult. Most people say to look at the parents to tell what they might be like. I would think that the brighter a younger jungle is the better chance it would have at keeping nice color becuase if it starts out bright even with loosing some color it would probably still be brighter then something that started off duller. Not always a garuntee though.

Some times people do get bit in the butt buying a "high yellow" young Jungle that ain't so high yellow" when it's an adult.
