    Thermometer Help!
On one of the forums I read that the simple dial thermometers found in pet stores are not very accurate. The forum poster recommended the Acu-Rite combination digital thermometer and hygrometer. The model number is 00613. I promptly went out and bought two.

These are battery operated devices. One AA battery is used. I am worried that if I put one in the tank in the basking area, the heat may cause the battery to explode. Am I worrying needlessly?

    Please help!

    Yes you are worrying needlessly.

If your cage got hot enough to explode a battery, your animal would be long dead due to being COOKED.

Just did some quick research. A normal 1.5 volt Duracell AA battery has a Operating Temp: -20°C to 54°C (-4°F to 130°F):gj:

The unit itself should go on the cool side. That temp on the unit will be the "indoor" temp. The probe should go on the glass, under the substrate, over the UTH. Or, the basking area, depending on what type of heating set-up you are using. This will be the "outdoor" temp on the LCD screen.

If you are using a model that doesn't have a probe then disregard this post...
