    Fed snake tonight
I went to feed my snake tonight and I've been trying to hold the mouse up off the cypress shavings I have in my tank so it won't strike the mouse right on the mulch or whatever you call it. Well I dropped the mouse right when it was about to strike it so it hit it on the ground. I watched it eat the mouse and it was fine but when he was done he yawned several times which I've heard is normal but then he started what looked like chewing. I'm not sure how else to describe it he was just slightly opening his mouth. He left his head out of his hide so I got to look at his head and I saw a piece of bark sticking out of his mouth. This worried me some so I just got some tweezers and pulled it out. It was only a small piece I'm just wondering if this is why he could have been doing that chewing motion like trying to get it out of his mouth?

Could have been. My first thought was just more jaw adjustment.

Why are people so afraid of substrate?

Sorry haha just don't want my snake to choke and die on some substrate, the slivers just seem big to it right now. What do you feed yours on then Mr. Poppers?

Also thought it could have been snake licking its lips saying, Yum.

Well, I fed on shredded aspen a few times, then switched to tubs and newspaper for cost.

It's just, they eat whole animals and dissolve their skin, hair, and bones to little clumps of poo. Even if I still fed on aspen, I wouldn't worry unless I actually SAW a problem.

If you DO worry, you can put down some paper towels or something, then put the mouse on that.

Mine does that sometimes when he gets the odd beech chipping stuck in his teeth. Always shifts it though and then either spits it out or swallows it. Wont do any harm, but also no harm in removing it with some tweezers for their comfort! :-)
