Albino and Lavender albino; How to tell???
Say you picked up 4 hets. 2 were for regular albino, 2 were for lavender albino, but you didnt know which was which (except for the pair, I know this is kind of far fetched but I dont know how else to explain it). Eventually you make a visual or 2 from each clutch.

How do you tell the difference? I know big time breeders will have their genetics and everything recorded and everything, but is their any real way of telling?
Like, does they have different shaded eyes, more/less pigment/color in the head?

I'm sorry but this has been on my mind for quite a while :P

Not sure I properly understand your question. You would not be able to tell which Het is which, several breeders have tried breeding an Albino to a Lavender Albino and never got eggs to go full term.

As for visual, there is no mistaking an adult Lavender. :)

Unless you already know which was which, you would not be able to tell the difference between the two hets. There is no guaranteed way of telling any recessive gene het from any other het or normal.

Either keep good records and photo id's or don't mix up your hets. Other wise it could take you a few breeding seasons to find out who was who.

Are you asking "can you tell a normal albino hatchling from a lav albino hatchling?" If so, yes, you can tell but the difference may be subtle. Their color is different as well as their eye color. If I handed you both you'd be able to tell.

I wasn't talking about the mixing up the hets. I knew somebody would ask about that though :P:P

I was asking about the actual visuals. I know you would be able to tell them apart much easier as they grow, but I was talking hatchlings.

Thanks alot for your responses though :)

LOL Well... You knew someone was going to answer that way from the wording of the question :8:

Its difficult to tell babies apart but if you see enough of them you catch on. The colors are slightly different and the eyes is what gives it away for me. I compare it the difference in eye color of fancy rats with "red" eyes. The albino rats have pink eyes. There are certain colors of fancy rat that have whats called ruby eyes. The color difference is subtle but noticable for people who have seen the difference. The lavender albino BPs have these ruby eyes. They color is deeper and more rich. High contrast albinos may have these deep ruby eyes but they are still usually not the same as lavender eyes. Plus the colors of a high contrast are different from a lavender. Just google pics of albinos and lavenders and study many pictures. You will be able to tell them apart before long.

Sometimes it can be quite hard to tell what from what.

Like the Toffee Ball as a hatchling, you might think that you just produced an Albino, but they go through a color change. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ee+ball+proved

hets refers to heterozygous meaning that THAT snake in particular doesn't actually show the gene but is a carrier. So no, a het albino and a het lavender albino should look exactly the same... (like a normal) This is why record keeping is essential... Buying hets is ok but you should make sure that you buy them from reputable breeders with good histories. Lavender and normal albinos are not interchangeable, breeding them together will produce double hets...
