    Male BP size
My pastel male is over 1600 grams and I was wondering what size is the biggest male in your collection?

Along those lines, do bigger males breed poorly?

I was speaking with a fellow ball owner who breeds a little, and was told NEVER to let a male get over 900 grams, or he won't breed.
I took the advice with a grain of salt, so to speak, but this person was admant that any male over 900 grams is worthless to breed, and also said males should never be fed more than one adult mouse per week to make sure they don't get too big. :O

So, the 1100 gram proven pastel male I bought is actually worthless to me, because since he's that big he won't breed, hmm? :colbert:

Yeah, I'm not terribly found of the "keep your males under 1000g" advice. I have heard that obese males are prone to cardiovascular issues, so I don't feed my big boys -quite- as much as they'd like... but the idea of actively seeking to bonsai my snakes? I'm not so much into.

That said, my 1000+g late 2008 black pastel boy managed to get that big on one large mouse every week. In autumn he gets two or three most weeks, because he's clearly hungry and I feel sorry for him--but he's even put on weight this winter, eating one mouse every other week. And he's still madly in love with my big female pied, since he tries to mate her every time I let them out together.

But he also shares a big 60 gallon "bachelor tank" with two other boys, and I see all three of them out cruising every evening. I'll eventually move them to racks when I start breeding next winter, but I gotta wonder... does age have anything to do with a male bp's virility? What about exercise?

I'm not about to try giving them viagra, but I gotta wonder.

My lemon pastel male is over 2000 grams and is a breeding machine. He also doesn't go off feed during breeding season.

My male didn't want anything to do with my females this year. But then again he got out of QT towards the end of April so I wasn't expecting anything from him this season.
