Something to Keep Him Busy/Chew On
My rat always seems excited and curious to come out when I walk by his tank, but a lot of times I don't end up handling him and I feel he may be bored. Sometimes he nibbles on his plastic mouse/rat hide I have in there for him, but I want something that'll keep him busy and allows him to chew on it.

Is there anything around the house that would work or anything at a Petsmart that would be useful?

I give mine those carrot or yogurt flavored chew bones for dogs. Real bones are good too, I think.

Might as well try that, seems like a great idea! I have some Ritz crackers I got today, would it be okay to feed him that as a treat? Just curious, I got a big box of Ritz crackers:P

I use toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, cut up 2x4's, chicken bones, or pizza crust.

I used to feed all sorts of things to the rats. I also gave them dog chew bones(edible ones, not plastic ones), and Petsmart also has wooden blocks for rabbits and rats to chew on that the like too.

For fun, you can give them a whole apple and watch them "hide it" in the corner by tossing bedding on top, then get confused when one of the other rats "finds" it despite all that effort to hide it.

I think another rat would be best.

Rats are very social animals, and I'm sure your rat would never get bored with another rat to run around and play with. Hopefully he doen't chew on the other rat though!

You can get wooden blocks, card board, wheels, and little mazes for him.

But I still think another rat is best.

I think my rat is a tad too large to fit in a roll, but I wanna see what he does with it, like put his head inside and play with it, so I may just put a roll in there.

Pizza crust sounds great, and I normally hate eating the crust:D Now I have someone who will actually eat it LOL:8:

I really like the dog chew bone idea, does it matter what flavor or brand? I might have some random dog bones in the laundry room, but I think they are sort of the "fancy" kind with stuff in the middle or something like that.

I wanna try that wooden block too, seems like they have fun with those. Will they really take an entire apple? I'd really like to watch that:rofl:

I'm actually getting two females from someone very soon so he will have some buddies he can "play" with:D;)

Hey tiffany, there's a company that makes "wowsers" real bones, with filling for dogs, but instead of the beef, chicken, and lamb filling, they have granola, and maple walnut fillings that are also good. And the edible cornstarch bones from Nylabone are good too. Funny, cause I used to buy my chinchilla the banana flavored ones of those(he loved em' !), but I don't think they make those anymore.

That sounds pretty good actually, I'll go see if I can find any of the granola or maple walnut filling ones when I go to Petsmart for crickets.

The only bones I found in my laundry room are the Milk-Bone Brand ones, would that be OK? It has bacon, beef, chicken, sausage, and turkey flavored bones (sounds pretty good.. maybe I should try one myself:O).
