Not Thermoregulating

Hey everybody,

It seems that my snake doesnt thermoregulate himself. He has very seldom been in his warmside hide, only the cool side one. The temps are cool side: 80-84 and 90-92 warm side. Any ideas? Also his breathing is very noticeable, you can clearly see his body going in and out with his lungs. Could this be a respiritory infecition caused by low temps? I've had him for about 2 weeks and i'm a little concerned.

he sounds fine. snakes have to move their rib in and out to be able to breath so u will be able to see it pretty easily. sounds and drool are the best way to tell if ur snake has an RI.

maybe he feels more secure in the cool side hide. trying switching them. put the cold side on the warm side and warm side hide on cold side.

make sure that the hides are the same. I have some that very rarely go in the hot side....that I can see. But they do go in....remember they are nocturnal so allot of what they do is when we are sleeping.

Unless you watch them 24/7, he IS regulating temps by roaming around at night. While you sleep hes out and roaming or laying off the heat just few inches.

I have two identical hides, do you think the snake can still tell the difference? I wouldn't be suprised if they had diffferent scents or something.

I would venture to say...you are just not seeing it. Sneeky lil buggers!! ;)

i have one hide in my tubs and i keep them i keep at around 93 and they dont ever leave except at night sometimes. as long as u keep them warm and not cold they will be ok.

Does he go on the hot side after a meal? That is usually when they go on the hot side.

yeah this is what i would say, if you havnt fed him then he has no real reason to heat up to digest his meal. has he eaten yet?
