    unbreed female with folicles!
I have a female I bought in feb. and she was 1155 grams and now 1465 grams. I was going to breed her next year but I felt folicles in her (about 6) and she is in a rack that has males but never introduced with a male. Should I still stick a male with her or wait until next year? She is an '08!

That weight is fine to breed.
I'd do it! Late is better than never, right?

You can't lose. I'd put a male in with her now, if it works it works, and if it don't it don't...

Win win situation. If you stick her with a male now, you could get a viable clutch, if it doesn't stick, at least you weren't expecting eggs in the first place.:gj:

    Good luck!

Do females still get follicles even if they never been with a male?

Yes, but I think it's more common with older females who have bred before in the past.

Could she smell him because he is in the shelf right above her on the rack?

She most definitely knows that he is nearby. As far as breeding her, I would not. For a 2 year old, I think she is too small to breed. Can she breed and lay eggs, yes. However, if you intend on breeding her again, you would be better off to wait until next year. In my experience, small young (read as 2 year old) females that lay eggs will often take the next year, and sometimes 2 years from breeding. Then once they do breed again, they will often times lay smaller clutches for a few years, if not for the rest of their productive lives.
