We can't even hold Picasso without gloves now and even then he nails them over and over when you are least expecting it!

I have no clue. I was told that they are usually nippy when young and that they have to be handled alot. But that he was very sweet and had not been a problem in the time they had him. They did not breed him, but was trade I think. We have purchased snakes from them before so I wouldn't think it was just a story. It seems that the more we try with him the worse he gets. We let him rest for a few days before handling him so I know it isn't from handling him too soon. He will be just really calm then all of a sudden snap. He has issues! I am wondering if this particular species has more sensitive skin because they are from rain forests where it is damp all of the time and when they aren't wet, their skin gets "sore" maybe, I don't know....just an idea.

He's just a neonate right now so he will be nippy. And I have brb's being nippy to a point in general. I dont think his skin is really any more sensitive since it is covered in scales. Amphibians are very sensitive to outside toxins and handling because of their very sensitive skin, but with the reptiles the scales of the BRB are about the some of most RTB's and other tropical species. Almost all the species we keep are tropical.

He is a good looking boy even if he does have a bit of an attitude now :gj:

Thats really odd. How much are you feeding him? Ive only been bitten by a rainbow once, and that was a rescue being treated for URI.

Brazilians aren't known for their gentle disposition. They aren't the most aggressive species, but you aren't going to find them slithering on the street handing out flowers. :P

True, but I doubt youd find that with most snakes :P

Seriously, the idea that brb's are nippy is kinda blown out of proportion. Yes, babies bite, but so do baby ball pythons and corn snakes. Ive been keeping brazilians for years and have friends that have as well. Honestly, Ive found most people who say brazilians are "known for being nippy" either havent kept them personally or have been working with imported animals.

Id still like to know how often he is being fed. Also, what kind of gloves are you using? What kind of hides do you have set up and what are your temps at?

I have a BRB that is something like 2 years old and the thing is a little chainsaw. By far the meanest snake I have. I just wear a long sleeve t-shirt and use a hook. Mine has always been mean though and didn't change like yours.

Hehe, I bred CB Brazilians for quite a few years. I'd say 75% of them were evil little monsters. I had one adult female that wasn't so bad, but she'd still let you know how she was feeling if she had a bad day.
