Stuck eye shed..what would a vet do?

My older male cannot shed his eyecaps, he's been thru 2 sheds already. He has a condition that the breeder called 'bug eyes'. I'm sure there's an actual medical term for this but couldn't find much info online. From what I've read, seems more common in corns. Supposedly it's nothing serious or that would affect his quality of life. The breeder said it was genetic so he had no use for him. I'm concerned about what a vet would do in this situation & I want to make sure I find a vet that has experience with this. Do they just pick at the eye until it comes off? The last thing I want to do is cause him unnecessary stress. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

I've read that you can rub a little baby oil on an eyecap and it may help it come off.. My bp had some sheading problems and I went to Petsmart and got some kind of shed-aid spray that's worked great

a moist warm Q-tip and gentle rubbing will moisten the cap and if your careful and persistent it will just roll right off..

Thank you, I'll try this..I'm just very concerned about somehow causing damage to his cute little bug eyes. As long as this isn't really possible, I'll be willing to try. If this doesn't help, do you think I'll need to see a vet?

Be very gentle and don't force it..I've also known people to apply a light LIGHT coat of Neosporine to the eye cap to allow it to soften up..If it doesn't come off with the moist Q-tip wait till next shed, they typically come off with the next shed if not then you might want to get a vet to remove them..

I had that situation happen once a while back. All i did was jack the humidity up for about a week and gave her a couple soaking sessions and one morning when i checked she had managed to get it off somehow.

Creating more moisture can only help to soften up these stuck shed pieces. Maybe jack up humidity for a couple days to soften the shed up and then give the q-tip and warm water a try for maximum effectiveness

Be VERY careful as they have a protective layer on their eye. Do not pull that off. We had a member that had a vet do that to a BP that he was trying to get the bad stuck shed off.

You might want to try taking a warm wet wash cloth and putting it in the warm hide....they will go in there and rub on it.
