My BP got bitten by mice. What to do?
Yeah yeah, i was complacent :slamhead:... I fed live, my bp was always on target... never missed the head, just this time... he hit the neck, when he coiled, the mouse bit, drew blood...
What to do next?
Next time will only feed confused and knocked out mouse...
Re: My BP got bitten by mice. What to do?
When my bp got cut, (so long as yours doesn't need stitches in which case you'd obviously need to go to the vet) the vet had me put Neosporin with pain relief on her cut until it healed. Apparently reptiles are very susceptible to infection, so you defiantly want to put something on the bite that will kill germs. You may want to go to the vet anyway just in case so they can give your bp antibiotic injections. I'm no expert, but I hope this helps!

you want to use the kind of neosporin WITHOUT pain reliever in it. I can't remember the exact reason, but the pain relief is very bad for the snake.

Clean it and put neosporin (WITHOUT PAIN RELIEVER) on it. They sometimes get bitten.... No big deal. If you are going to feed live just let your snake take care of the mouse, No need to stun it.
Cinder beat me to the punch.
Re: My BP got bitten by mice. What to do?
should i let the 48 hr waiting time after feeding take effect before i handle the snake?

Our vet here which is highly recognized and one of the top 5 reptile vets in the world suggested to use diluted Chlorhexadine. Keep an eye on it for swelling and oozing if it goes that way a vet visit will be warranted.

depending on the location of the bite you may not even need to handle her. Neosporin (no pain relief) + qtip = success :) IF the bite is in a location where handling her may be useful, I'd wait 24 hours and keep her enclosure dry and clean. Make sure there is no spilled water or urine or feces to get in the wound.
She will shed, if its that bad, and then the wound will start to heal. I had a baby boa get lose in my car on the way home from a show (i thought the breeder gave her to me in a secure container, i was wrong). She had a puncture wound on her, she started a shed cycle within a week, and after 2 sheds its gone completely.
They are very resilient animals when it comes to things like this.

Can you see a wound, or did you just see blood?
Was it a lot of blood or just a little?
And are you sure the blood came from your snake or could it have been from the mouse?

saw a tiny wound around the neck of my snake...

Try the Q-tip trick that Cinder suggested and keep things as clean and dry as possible until tomorrow. Then give his cage a good cleaning and inspect the wound closer. Chances are you wont even be able to see where the mouse bit him. :gj:
