temperature

I have kept my corns very successfully with a heat gradient of 70F-80F.

But now I am moving! The new room they will be in runs at a constant 74F.

My question is this: Should I keep their heating pad on, evey though it runs the temperature on the warm side up to 85F, or should I turn it off and let them cruise around at 74F? Should I turn the heating pad on only 48hrs after they eat? What to do?

70's is a bit low so 85 should be fine. you should ALWAYS leave it on monitoring the heat pad with a DIGITAL thermometer to make sure the temp doesnt suddenly go up or down. and leave it on especially after they eat because they rely on heat to be able to digest their food.

Hm... someone else (for the life of me I don't remember who) told me it was dangerous to keep corns above 80F. But I guess if they have a choice of sitting over the UTH or not it is safe, right?

And I do have two digital therms on all of my reptile enclosures. :)

I keep my corns at room temperature right now (room temps are above 80, never gets below 75 and sometimes reach into the upper 80s).

When I did have heat on my corn snakes I kept them with an ambient temp of 72-75 and a hot side of around 85. Above 80 is fine for corns. :)
