Dimmer?
Hi,
I'm going to menards or lowes to pick up a dimmer for my rack. Does anyone know what make or model I should get? I don't even know what one looks like?
I will be getting a rheostat soon, But I will have to use a dimmer for now, Preferably a cheap one.
If anyone has any pics or info on this that would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremiah

They look like this:

I have a pair of the brand "Levitrons" they seem to be the most common in Home Depot.

I will private message you a link to a photo of one. I posted this already but the picture wont show up. Sorry for the edit.

Re: Dimmer?
If you get the model posted in here, keep a close eye on it; atleast at first. I got one of these and found a LOT of variance between miniscule adjustments, almost as if at certain positions it cut power. :O Probably just a faulty unit, but keep an eye.

You do know that dimmers and rheostats won't hold the temperature stable if the temperature in the room goes up and down.
This is why most of us use thermostats instead :gj:

Re: Dimmer?
i use the ones that mount in the wall just wire it up and your off cost me like 3 bux at lowes works wayyyyyy better than the lamp ones, for me.

Re: Dimmer?
A rheostat and a dimmer are the exact same thing....
If you are using a rack setup and it has flexwatt in it, I would recommend NOT using it at ALL until you have a thermostat.

Re: Dimmer?
As mentioned above, a rheostat / dimmer has to be monitored, temp will flutuate with room temps, I am using one for my rack til my new thermostat comes and it is doing fine (the room stays between 79-82), so it only fluctuates a couple degrees.

Re: Dimmer?
Thanks for the advice every one, My temps in the room stay pretty steady.
I have used flex watt before and know that you should not use it without something to control the temps...It gets way too hot and could cause a fire and or burn my snakes.
My room stays pretty cool though, I'm trying to figure out how to keep the cool end of the tub not too cool. I'm using 4 '' flex watt...but it seems to only keep the little area warm..Should I try 11 '' ?
