What morph for 2nd snake?

Hi,

My first snake is a het genetic stripe male 400gms. I'm probably going to pick up snake number 2 in June at the New York Reptile Show. I'm going to be getting a RBI sweaterbox rack soon. I may or may not breed in the future . . . not sure. I have decided that I would like a female for my collection but what morph?

-Spider?
-Pastel?
-Mojave?

Would like to stay in the 200-350.00 price range.
Thoughts??? Would not be adverse to another male if it is a beautiful snake.

Personally I would go with a nice pastel. A nice female pastel will run you about $200-300. A female pastel was my second snake :)

In the end, it is your decision. We can only tell you what we would pick. It is your decision, pick whichever one you like the most!

I've seen a couple of posts where people said that pastels fade as they age and lose some of there color. Is this true?

If its true I'd go with a spider, if its not true I'd go with a pastel.

I'm actually having this debate with my self right now, do I Get a pastel, a spider, or a CRT.:P

Well most BP change colors from hatchlings to adults. It's noticed more on pastels due to their sharp yellow coloration. You cant really never tell how much a pastel will lose it's coloration as they go into adult hood.

The pastels babies with very faded heads, not much orange color and bright yellows seem to retain yellows the best. But still, you never really know....

Line breeding is very important when it comes to pastels, looking at a picture of the parents always helps.

Also pastels go through an "ugly hatchling" stage. It's not easy ending up with an adult bright pastel, and the people that do are very lucky! :)

Not all pastels will brown out as adults. I have a 2 year old pastel that is yellower then she was as a hatchling. Let's just say you get what you pay for.

I agree, most snakes brown out, some more than others. there are so many basic morphs that look great as hatchlings but not as adults. I'm into the fire gene. which when combine with other morphs does so much to prevent this.
