    Pre Ovulation Shed?
I know that Ball Python have a Pre Lay Shed. But Do they also have a Pre Ovulation shed? I have a normal girl that has been locking up since Nov? The Male wants nothing to do with her now and she just shed and has been off food for like 2 month and is soaking non stop. Which I read is a sign. Just wondering if they shed Ovulate then shed again?

Also keep in mind not every female has a Pre lay shed.

All females this year for me never shed till after ovulation.

Isn't the post ovulation shed the same thing as the pre lay shed? I'm kinda confused by your post... maybe it's just me. From ovulation to lay is 50 days give or take. So any shed post ovulation would be a pre lay shed, generally 30 days and you have eggs. Anything pre ovulation would be a pre ovulation shed, which usually happens about 2-3 weeks prior to ovulation. Correct?

    its called Post Ovulation Shed(POS)

Pre lay or Pre ovy is not always done with each female

Cobra, I had one female do this for me this year. It's a first for me. I've read that other breeders have it happen regularly. I guess it depends upon the snake. The girl that did the pre ovulation shed for me I think was because it's her first time. Not sure. Just a guess. But the answer to your question is, Yes, some do.

If you happen to notice ovulation, which is generally pretty hard because it only lasts about 24 hours give or take. But, if you notice, the snake should shed about 10-20 days after that, once that shed is complete it'll be roughly 30 days until she lays eggs.

If your male is not interested in her anymore then she is probably going to become gravid or already is gravid. When the female is about to ovulate or has ovulated, she will stop producing phermones, so the males will lose interest. It's a good sign of her being gravid, or about to be anyway. Also the lack of appetite is a good sign too.

Good luck, best wishes to you.

I understand what you are saying, but I think you are mistaken. I have never had a female pre lay shed before ovulation. What would they be pre laying? Nothing? They have to ovulate first before they can pre lay shed. So a pre lay shed is the same thing as a post ovy shed. Or maybe I'm just retarded. But it doesn't make sense to call a shed a pre lay shed, if it's pre ovy... Sorry for the confusion. I'm not trying to be Mr. Knowitall. I promise. :)

I think people are just getting terms twisted. All females will do a Post ovulation shed or Prelay shed if they are gravid..those two terms mean the same thing.

But not every female will do a Pre-Ovulation shed ;that would be a possible shed cycle -before- actual ovulation.

Ok thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if it was a real thing or not but it seems to be a hit or miss thing. My 1st one this year did after I looked at her card. She Shed 1month to the date of ovulation. Shed again and then 27days after I got eggs.
