What am I? Het questions.

I'm new to ball pythons, but have quickly gained a population of 10! I love them. I am still learning about their colors. I purchased three unknown hets this weekend. I believe the breeder is very trustworthy. He micro chips all of his hets and has over 1000 snakes. I had previously bought a pair of het pieds and a het ghost from him. I was looking at some of his normals at the last reptile show. I wanted to pick up a normal female for my spider male. He pulled out a box from under his counter and showed me some snakes. He lost the program that he chipped these snakes with, and some were 66% hets that he did not bother to chip. He told me that he could not sell these guys as hets because he did not know what they were het for. I bought all three females. Now the fun part is going to be figuring them out. I would love to prove them out, but It's going to take some luck. One female has markers, One female has deep chocolate colors, and one female has white spots that I just noticed tonight. I was wondering if their were any ways of guessing what a snake carries by their color besides the pied markers?

Well.. grats on the new additions and the collection.

There is absolutely no way you can tell what an animal is het for if you don't know. None. Het pied markers aren't even in any way shape or form reliable. Non hets have them, and 100% hets don't sometimes.

Did you even ask the breeder what the possibilities were? There are quite a few simple recessive morphs;

axanthic
ghost
genetic stripe
albino
piebald
lavender albino
caramel albino
clown
desert ghost
patternless
etc

Does anyone have any idea about the white spots? She has white spots on her blushing up both sides of her. I showed the pictures of some of the larger ones.

That is typical of a normal.

I have many like that. It's not indicative of anything, really.

Those all are normals.

The only way you can know if one is het for anything recessive is with paperwork and a trustworthy breeder.
Otherwise, they don't look like anything special or different. Sorry. :(

With recessive traits Het (heterozygous) means that the allele for the visual gene is NOT shown and the dominant allele (the normal visual trait) is what you see.

There are markers that are thought to associate with hets, but none are proven and there are proven hets with no markers as well. You just cannot determine het traits without breeding.

Co-Dominant traits are heterozygous and their super forms are homozygous. Remember, you can not have a 'het' co-dominant trait like a pastel or mojave that looks like a normal. It will just be a normal.

Who is the breeder you got them from?

You would have better luck skydiving using a blow-pop wrapper as a parachute

All my hets are from Elegant Reptile Images. I am very happy with his snakes. They are all very aggressive eaters. I have bought 6 snakes from him. The last 3 hets that I bought are unknown what they are het for and he was very upfront and honest about it.

They are 100% het for Python regius!

best thing to do would be ask what they could be het for. ie, what had he bred that could make the 66% hets, then from there get a visual of each morph and figure it out by trial and error. of course you also could have gotten normals since they were proported to be 66%
