How can you miss an ovulation?

So, I like showing off everything to friends and family. They always ask: "how can you tell when they ovulate?" I show good examples of females that look like they tried to eat a balloon, and they then follow with: "So then how can you miss an ovulation?" It's not hard to do sometimes.

I'm amazed how many people on here will say "I had no idea I was going to get eggs, I saw no ovulation!" and so I thought maybe others wonder how it can be missed.

This female ovulated, I saw it, and here it was:

This female only has 4-5 nice big follicles, yet she's hiding them very well!:P


For any nay-sayers who think this is not an ovulation, this is how she looks now:

Over the hot spot, normally coiled (not in this one though) and entering pre-lay shed.
EDIT: Thought I would mention that she weights 1900 grams.

So, that's how you can miss an ovulation. For advice, check on them twice a day, they don't just bloat-up for no reason, even if it's a tiny bloat.;)

You cant really miss an ovulation it's almost as if the ball python swallowed a foot ball.

The picture isn't very good, but it was an ovulation. I'll update when the eggs go down. Some females don't swell as much as others, I've seen it before, they only swell a tiny bit then go back down, hot side, shed, then eggs.

Hard to tell in the pic, but I'll take your word for it. It is a little funny that in a thread titled "How can you miss an ovulation?" you used a pic in which it is impossible to see the ovulation.

i completely missed an ov this year. checked tubs everyday never saw anything untill the 4th when she was coiled around her eggs. she had stopped eating a couple months ago but she has ALWAYS been known to stop eating for 3-4 months at times for no reason so i didnt think twice about it

I had snakes that was hard to see it and had 6 or more eggs. easlier to miss when you have alot of snakes. If they go they go, I check for eggs twice a day and will catch ovulation this way. most of my females seems to lay their eggs between 2 and 4 am.

Battery on the cam died before I could get another picture. And in the morning when it was charged the swelling was gone.:(

I do the same, once in the morning, once at night. I've never missed an ovulation, but I have doubted them before "Is she just bloated?" then poof eggs. I love when they give me the football look, that's always easy to catch!;)

I know she'll drop eggs, she's in the middle of pre-lay shed...Only thing I hope for is no slugs, this is her first year breeding so it's up in the air!:please:
