Never thought about blow drying rats before. I'll try it next week, but I'll be wearing gloves :D

Normally I open the tub then give the rats head a blast and she shoots her head out and gets into "nutter mode"

Kind of drilled it home to me why a feeding routine should stay routine. :rolleyes:

I swear she gave me a dirty look before ripping it out of my hand and dragging it under the paper.

Grin. My BP is downright violent when it's time to feed, I really have to watch it. Nearest warm thing during feeding time will get struck at, she has even managed to leap out of the feeding enclosure I use. Otherwise, she is an exceptionally docile BP.

This is also on F/T. What I'm finding is that there is a major response difference between your run of the mill pet store F/T and something like the mouse factory. I always get incredible responses on the later.

I actually started getting feeding responses like that, but used tongs from day one, even for the babies, when I started thawing my rats directly in a pan of hot water.
I've seen a lot of people say to keep them dry and put them in a baggy before putting them in water to thaw, but for my snakes, that hot water soak, and then one last blast of hot water before dangling the rat in there is what gets them every time.
That's actually what got my problem feeder boy to finally start eating regularly

Before that I tried all the usual thawing methods, heat lamps, hair dryer, just letting it sit out all day, etc. and it was still pretty hit and miss sometimes.

I used tongs and then decided that I need to take a bite at some point. So I stopped using tongs and he did fine for a couple feedings and then the feeding before last he missed...though to the left, so it missed my hand.

It's not that I want to be bit either, just everyone says you'll eventually get bit and I'd rather get my first bite from my snakes than a wild one I catch.
