Trying to get my genetics down
And have come as far as I can without asking for help...
Now I've been reading that if I were to breed my het. ghost with a spider I would have a 25% chance of getting a normal 25% chance of getting a spider 25% chance of getting a het. ghost 25% chance of getting a het. ghost, het. spider. However I wouldn't know which is which without breeding the normal looking ones, correct?
Now one of my questions is, what if I breed a spider het. ghost to my het. ghost would that change my chances or allow me to produce both visual spiders and ghosts?
Also was wondering about yellowbellies which from what I've read can when breed together have a 25% chance of producing a ivory, or am I missing something?

Re: Trying to get my genetics down
if both hets are 100% het, then u have a chance of getting ghost spiders, normals het ghost, spiders, spiders het ghost, and (?)normals(?)

First of all you'll need to learn which mutations belong to the different types of inheritance.
There are three types of inheritance:
1. Recessive
2. Dominant
3. Co-Dominant
Ghost is a recessive gene and Spider is a dominant gene.
If you breed a Ghost to a Normal, you will get only normals which are all 100% heterozygous for Ghost.
If you breed a 100% het. Ghost to a normal, you will only get normals. All of these normals have a 50% chance of being 100% het. for Ghost. These animals are mostly referred to as 50% possible hets.
If you breed a Spider to a normal, you will get 50% normals which are heterozygous for nothing (there's no such thing as het. for Spider)
and 50% Spiders.
If you breed a het. Ghost to a Spider, you will get:
25% normals
25% Spiders
25% normals 50% poss. het. Ghost
25% Spiders 50% poss. het. Ghost
Regards...

Re: Trying to get my genetics down
As for yellowbellies, breeding them together you have a 25% chance of getting an ivory, 50% chance of getting a yellowbelly and 25% chance of getting a normal.

Hmmm Interesting, I thought I would have to at least breed the offspring together to get ghost spiders. Maybe I should buy this spider after all...

Re: Trying to get my genetics down
As long as you trust the breeder that the spider is het ghost go for it :gj:

I'd trust BHB, he seems pretty straight forward and I like watching the show he has :D

Re: Trying to get my genetics down
Here's the odds with both the Normal and Spider being 100% het Ghost.
12.5%: Normal
12.5%: Het Orange Ghost 100%
12.5%: Het Orange Ghost 50%
12.5%: Orange Ghost
12.5%: Spider
12.5%: Spider, Het Orange Ghost 100%
12.5%: Het Orange Ghost, Spider 50%
12.5%: Orange Ghost, Spider
But seeing as how you will not know which normals or which Spiders are het they will all be considered 66% het Ghost.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I do beleive this to be correct.

some will be hets, and some wont
therefore, they will ALL be '50% poss het'...

12.5%: Normal
25%: Het Orange Ghost
12.5%: Orange Ghost
12.5%: Spider
25%: Spider, Het Orange Ghost
12.5%: Spider Orange Ghost (honey bee)
you're correct regarding: non-visual ghosts being classed as 66% hets
