Ball pythons in tubs?

I'm having issues with my snake not eating, and a few people have suggested using tubs. My tank I'm using is big now (55 gallons) and the woman I got him from gave me/told me all the wrong information. Can you tell me all about your tubs? Where did you get your supplies? What size hide should I use for a five foot long ball python?

For a five foot python, I would suggest a 40qt long tub (which is what I use for my largest BPs.

Large water dish (6 inches diameter)

And I don't use hides mostly, but if I do, it would be something similar to a tissue box upside down (I use the Zoomed ones)

For all of the said supplies, I would check out different rack makers, or even just go to a reptile show. They usually have everything there.
Walmart/Target is good for tubs though.

If you use a tub you probably wont need a hide for a BP that size but if you choose to have a hide a litter box is the way to go. You just need one of the smaller litter boxes. Plastic. Cut a round hole big enough for the snakes body in one end. All my tubs are in rack systems but you can use a proper sized UTH as long as it is controlled by a thermostat. Flexwatt wired with a plug is good. An under bed box is the right size for a BP that big. The 1960 41 Quart Underbed Box by sterilite is the one I use for my bigger racks that house bigger females. Just be sure the lid has snap down latches so the BP cant push it open.

I really like the tubs these guys make... Vision I've used the Iris CB-70 tubs for years but I think the V-70 tubs made by Vision are much better, the plastic it thicker and they're easier to clean because they have flat bottoms... (like some of you chicks out there.... ;) )

I don't use their racks though except for hatchlings, For adults I like the animal plastics racks better. AP rack

I have been in the same situation before. Large BP in a 50 gal tank that quit eating. I set him up in a 60qt tub from Wal-Mart. It had about the same floor space as the tank did but it was only about 6 inches tall. I set it up just like I did the tank. Basically, I put some vent holes in it and just transferred everything over, waited a week, offered food and he ate. I had looked at using a 41 qt tub, but the hides will take up almost the entire floor space leaving no room for the water bowl. So, for a stand alone tub, I would say go with a 60qt. It measures about 36"L X 17"W X 6"T. It worked for me... My :2cent:

I forgot to add that a 41qt will be big enough unless you need to use hides, and for a stand alone tub Idon't think it would be dark enough during the day without hides...

For hides, I would suggest finding two litter boxes that will fit in the tub and still leave enough room for the water bowl and the snake to move back and forth between them. The ones I was using measure 13-1/2"L X 9-3/4"W X 4"T. They are just a little bit larger than the Reptile Basics large size hide...

How come the UTH that they sell in the pet store say to "use only on glass" - can you use them with a tub???
