I dont think the rat is too big because he came from the same group of rats I got the last one from, if the rat is walking and stretched he is the same or a little smaller then the biggest part of the snake but when its hunkered down it looks alot fatter. just wondered if the snake might have had second thoughts on whether or not he could eat it or not

Streched out normally. The snake takes the animals down streched out not hunched over. If your really that worried then go out and get a scale. 10-15% of the snakes weight u can feed your snake. You can can over the a bit with no problem but I wouldn't go over 20% of the snakes body weight.

ok. I finally took the rat back and got a smaller one, he just wouldnt take it, hes up all night searching around so I figured hes hungry. I put the small one in the the same thing, he struck at a couple times but after that acted like he couldnt tell where it was at so after 20 minutes I called my nephew, the previous owner. He said he had trouble with black and white rats so I went back and got one white mouse to try it out, it took about 20 minutes and he took it. Im going to let it ride for about a week and see if something else is brewing with him. I know that mouse was just a snack. The snake is almost 3ft long give or take a few inches and is about two years old.If anyone has anysuggestions let me know. Ive been watching him for signs of any r.i but I dont see anything obvious. Does anyone know of a herp vet in southern indiana just in case?
