    Adult Feeding Frequency?
My BP is an adult male and I am just curious how often ya'll feed your adults?

I feed him 1 F/T medium rat every 12 days however sometimes he likes to stretch it to every 14 days. Someone here awhile ago suggested I try to get him to eat every 10 days or so. However, it seems he is never interested that soon. So am I right in thinking that he'll eat when he is hungry? Is it necessary to keep trying to offer it at the 10 day mark?

Feeding infrequently is not always a bad thing.

Sometimes maintenance diets are better for adults anyway, IMO.

If he is eating consistently for you at 12-14 days, then stick with it, because it seems that you know he won't eat any sooner. I'm not sure how big or how much your Med rats weigh, but I am guessing they are a pretty good size for your BP. But, like I said, if he is eating and healthy, there is no need to change what seems to be working...

If it helps at all, here is what we do.

We feed our adult females (considered as anything over 18 months) once every 7 days.

Adult males get offered food every 3 weeks. I have about 3 or 4 males in the 5 year old range that even though they are offered every 21 days, they only eat 4 or 5 meals a year. (these males are all breeders, and still do well during breeding season) I must say that during the height of breeding season, I try to offer meals to the males every 10-14 days.

    Hope that helps,

The way I do it is that I feed smaller preys more often.

I feed all my animals once a week, the rats are 4 to 6 weeks old (anything from 55 to 85-100 grams.)

Females get the bigger rats, males get the smaller ones.

Bottom line find what works for your animal! ;)

Thank you all sooo much! Looks like I will just maintain him where he is at then since he seems to be healthy and eating consistently at every 2 weeks.

Vypyrz- He is getting pretty big medium rats although I have never thought to actually weigh them on our scale. How much should they weigh? Tanveer himself is about 3.25 feet and weighs about 1300 grams I am guessing. I haven't weighed him in atleast 6 months. I almost put that he weighed 13000 grams:rofl: THAT would be a big guy! He is a rescue so I have no idea how old he actually is.

Muddoc- Okay this is crazy! My dads name is actually Tim Bailey :O. Weird!
