Newbie Question

What is the best way to keep humidity up in class tanks with wire lids? I have a humid hide, but i would like to keep the ambiant humidity up higher than what it is currently.

I have a glass tank with screen lid too and I hate it! I'm buying a rack with tubs asap. A few ways you can get the humidity up that have worked for me:

1. If you have a heat pad under the tank (UTH) put the water bowl over it. It will help evaporate and increase the humidity. Also, a bigger water bowl will help.
2. you can cover the screen with a sheet or towel, something that will still let air in, but also keep humidity from escaping so fast. I usually only cover 2/3 of the top.
3. I have crumpled up newspaper my bp likes to crawl under and i spray the whole tank and paper with a spray bottle at least once, usually twice a day.

My humidity is usually around 60-65 but it fluctuates pretty bad, which is why most people are going to tubs nowadays. Hope this helps and good luck!

After a long time of struggling with keeping humidity up in a tank, I finally broke down and switched to a tub. And have never looked back!

I use Eco-Earth for my substrate and it has helped keep my humidity up tremendously!! Sometimes it's even a little on the high side and I have to turn on an overhead light to dry it out!!

Cover all but about 4-6 Inches of the top of the screen with aluminum foil or aluminum tape. I prefer to wrap foil around cardboard strips about 4 inches wide to make panels. Then you can add or subtract them depending on how much humidity or ventilation you need...

Do what I did and get a piece of plexi glass cut to fit over the screen. Then drill little holes to zip tie it to the screen, and drill a couple more holes for ventilation. Works great for me, and a lot better than any towel I have used.

That is another great idea, I use eco- earth too, I'll never look at different substrate again, it does wonders for humidity.

I use eco-earth and my humidity stays around 30-40%... i mist at least three times a day too. I have heard aspen bark is better to use? Any truth to that? Maybe my lack of humidity is caused by the high temp in my snake room?

I may just start switching to a rack as soon as i can

I use the Aspen bedding it hold water when i first started i had alot of trouble with humidity in my tank if ur using a light dont use it buy a under tank heater and cover 7 or 8 inches of the screen. I also have moss and lots of fake plants in my tank and now my humidity stays around 60 to 70 % plus more plant u have the more secure ur BP will feel.
