Inheriting Female Macklot's
I'm inheriting a fully grown female Macklot's Python.
I need some information on the care of this girl. I plan on buying her an animal plastics cage because she's in a 40 gallon breeder at the moment and apparently she's quite hard to remove from that tank.
She's big, and very pretty. I'll make sure to upload pictures.
But any care information would be lovely!
Thanks!

So one has these on here?
They're actually a really cool species.
Re: Inheriting Female Macklot's
This is VPI's Sheet on them. Hope it helps a little.
I hear their feeding response is insane!

Sweet, that's awesome. Post some pics when you get her settled!

Yeah, she eats pretty well from what I hear.
The caresheets that I've been finding are pretty controversial. One says provide large water bowl because they like to soak a lot, and VPI's says soaking is bad and only occurs if they have mites.
From what I know about her, whenever I'm at her house I see her soaking constantly. And I'm very sure she doesn't have mites. :weirdface
I'm not sure because I thought they lived in or near the water some of the time?
Re: Inheriting Female Macklot's
There's nothing wrong with providing a large water bowl for them to soak in. They have access to water in their natural habitat. VPI's care sheet claims that they 'hide' in water when they feel insecure. My only response to that is that, well, there's nothing stopping you from adding a hide or two big enough for your macklot. Big hides for bigger snakes can also double as perch areas and basking spots. In addition, replacing a big water dish with a small water dish doesn't remove any 'insecurities' they snake may have.
I don't keep this species so beyond that I can't give much advice.

Macklots are beautiful, but they're quite a handful! They're a very large, powerful snake, and very active to boot, so they can be tough to control. Have fun with her!

Thanks!
I've held her multiple times, and she is a bit difficult to hold but it's not too bad.
