    These hides are AWESOME.
Not sure if this has been suggested before, but here goes:

    - It's super cheap
    - A common household item
    - And simple to make!

It's a... Kleenex box! (Note: preferably the rectangular ones. I know there are some brands that sell taller, square-shaped boxes.)

I have two in my BPs enclosure - one for each end - and so far as I can tell, she loves them! All you have to do is remove the layer of plastic near the opening once all of the tissues are used up, and cut or tear a small square entrance on one end of the box for your BP. Then, just flip it over! It works great with UTHs because there's the larger opening on the bottom that still allows your BP to have contact with the warmed substrate.

The only catch with this hide, is it won't work for ALL BPs. Reason being, size. My girl is 800 grams and still leaves over a third of the box empty. She still feels snug as a bug, though. At least, I can tell, because she's still as ferocious as ever when it comes to eating since I started using these Kleenex boxes. :D

Gimme some feedback, guys! Let me knows what you think. Enjoy!

Before I saved enought to get plastic ones I was using boxes to. They worked fine, but every time they use the bathroom near them you have to throw them out and make new ones.

They are great size wise and certainly cheap. The only issue is that cardboard hides can build up bacteria rather quickly. All of the stuff that we wash off of our plastics hides do a number on these. In a pinch they will do the trick short term, but I don't know if anyone has used them long term. I remember using them when I unexpectedly took in a young bp a few years ago, but I quickly switched to a plastic hide. Now I just use a layer of loose newspaper and they can pick any place in their enclosure and still feel secure. It gets changed out when the rest of the newspaper get changed.
I will say that if you blow your nose a ton you may be able to keep up with the demand and keep fresh ones in there:)
