    Thermostat
    Hey guys,

I'm looking to replace my thermostat and was looking for a recommendation.

I have a four year old BP girl housed in a 4ftx1ft x2ft high tank. Just added coconut fiber today :D

    Anyway,
Is the Ranco still as popular as ever? What goes these days?

    Thanks

i brought a ranco at the expo 3 weeks ago for $70 it works great! I heard the helix is better but my ranco gets the job done just fine.

I'd done research and ended with a split decision between Ranco and Johnson.. a personal preference it seemed. The Helix seems to be an upgrade I can't yet afford however.

I'm wondering if any of this has changed since then. Is anything new out? Have prices at least gone down?

    Thanks again :)

Helix and Herpstat are the best as far as proportional thermostats. Ranco and Johnson are good direct thermostats. The difference is that the proportional thermostats have a built-in rheostat to adjust the amount of current directed to the heat source so they gently heat constantly instead of turning on and off like the Ranco and Johnson.

Talked about another thermostat in this thread. i bought it to test and i would think it's a good alternative if you want an on/off thermostat.

If your Ranco is still working, stick with it. Ranco and Johnson are basically the same thing and program the same way. Basically 2 companies making the same product. I've used both and currently have a Johnson running my room heater. My personal opinion is that the Ranco looks nicer... :confuzd: That's just me...
