Got this letter from my Representative.
I don't know if she's for this or against this, but at least she's letting me know that my concerns are being heard and I consider that to be good news.

Dear Mark:
Thank you for contacting me about the regulation of pythons. I appreciate hearing from you.
More then 600 Burmese and African Rock pythons were removed from the Florida Everglades Park between 2002 and 2007. Legislation has been introduced (H.R. 2811) that would include these pythons on a list of injurious species, banning their import and trade in the United States. I understand the concerns you have regarding the effect this legislation may have on pet owners and breeders. H.R. 2811 would not result in the confiscation of these snakes from people who already own them, and although interstate trade and travel would be restricted by this legislation, permits could be applied for to do so for scientific or educational purposes.
H.R. 2811 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. While I do not serve on this panel, be assured I well keep your views in mind should this legislation come to the floor for a vote.
Thank you again for contacting me on this issue.
Sincerely,
Betty McCollum
Member of Congress
Re: Got this letter from my Representative.
Sounds like the standard letter received by most others from their representatives. At least they had the time to send you a response. Many are reporting not getting anything.

Re: Got this letter from my Representative.
Everyone else is getting a letter addressed to 'Dear Mark:'? :D
(just kidding, I know what you meant...)
I'm thinking this is a good opportunity to send a follow up letter laying out a few more specific concerns.
Re: Got this letter from my Representative.
Agreed. A follow up would be hellpful. At this point, anything would be helpful. Another 5 days of temps in the 20's, but i doubt that is going to happen any time soon. ;)

Re: Got this letter from my Representative.
Read between the lines on that letter.
I am fairly sure she is for it. She seemed to know some fairly specific information about it. I would be willing to bet money that this is not the first she has heard about this bill, and has been persuaded by someone else to be for it.
She seems to hint at being for it by saying that burms and the like will not be confiscated even if the bill passes. By saying that, she is covering up her own rear end if this bill does pass and next time elections role around, a handful of people won't re-elect her because she voted for it. This way she can say "O you can still have your snakes. Why does it matter?" That is the problem with American politics. Most politicians cover up their own rear ends by rarely being outspoken about an issue.
