Egg box info?

What size tubs for egg boxes? How often to open egg box? Does the inside of the incubator need to be 89 or is it inside the egg box that should be 89 degrees?

I don't think the egg box size matters too much. Enough room for some substrate and the eggs I suppose.

Not sure on if/when you open the egg boxes.

The inside of the egg box should be 89* from my understanding.

some incubate at 85-89 depends what you like.

Most use 6qt or 15qt tubs for eggs

you do not have to open the tubs at all till last 2 weeks of incubation wheres once ever 3 days or once a week. Have to establish a routine that works for you and keep it.

It would all depend on the incubator being used. I have a converted freezer and have the temp set at 88.5 degrees in the incubator and the tubs temps are the same. As long as the incubator is sealed well and well insulated the temps should be constant throughout.

I use 6 or 7 quarts tubs

I incubate between 88-90 (Temps in the egg box)

I try not to open the box until the last 2 weeks of incubation :rolleyes:

We're using 6 qt tubs, though I think I need a couple of 15 qt ones as well for the bigger clutches. 12 eggs into a 6qt tub was...tight. I just need to find some 15's with clear lids so they are webcam friendly.

We measure temperature in the incubator (converted stand-up freezer), not in the tubs. Like was mentioned previously, as long as its well insulated that temperature should reflect the tub temps as well.

the tubs depend on the size of the clutch. One thing I have noticed is, like with salt water tanks when it comes to water, the more humid air there is in the box the smaller your temp seems to vary. Same with an incubator, the more warm air there is in it the less its seems to vary from top to bottom (if the air is circulated).

So I use 12qt for 4-8 eggs and 15 for 8-14 eggs :D

Thanks for the replies! I won't have eggs until next season but I would like to have everything ready. I have converted a large bar fridge into an incubator which can hold 4 clutches! I am a little over excited to breed! I have already built a baby rack too! My one female is 1200 grams and I could probaly breed her but I will wait until she is 1500 grams! I hope my other female is ready too but I don't think she will!
