    Switched to Newspaper...Humidity went up?
So I cleaned my BP cage today, hides everything full scrub. I took out the cypress and put in newspaper.

So I go down after an hour and the humidity was like 80%!

I moved the water bowl to the one part where there isn't a UTH (I use two on different thermostats.)

Could it just be water I missed drying? KInda weird.

Probably just still a little wet from being cleaned.

Well, if you are using a ceramic or one of those resin real looking dishes they heat up and evaporate a lot of water when sitting right on an under the tank heat mat, making the humidity go up. When you were using the cypress, it wouldn't have heated up so much. Since you already moved it, you should not have an issue.

So I got home late tonight and my humidity was 88%.

I put a plastic lid under the plastic dog bowl and some paper towels and it went down by about 10% but thats still to high.

I found a wet spot on the corner by the bowl. This is really bugging me it was never this bad with cypress.

I thought paper was supposed to be easier!! >_<

This is so weird I never read anything about this.

What kind of enclosure is it? Maybe there is no enough ventilation.

Here in Florida I have to make extra holes in anything.

Neodesha cage. there are 2 vents on top and the sliding glass door acts as a vent as well.

When I was using cypress the humidity was fine though so I don't think it's the cage.

Still sounds like it's from the cleaning. If the enclosure is not 100% dry, it will hold humidity for up to a day, especially since once you put it back on the heat and have water in there you're adding more.

You can either wait it out, or take out the water dish for the night while it regulates back to the normal.

Also, newspaper doesn't absorb heat like substrate, so heat goes directly into the tub, with no barrier, it can raise humidity as well. What temp is it at? I keep mine at 90, and humidity is fine with newspaper. :)

You can also add more ventilation, I always add extra holes in my tubs.
