First Python Hunting Season Ends In A Surprise
Quote:
Now, on the day the state's first python hunting season is ending, people are wondering where the creatures went: not a single reptile was reported captured and killed.
Oddly enough, the article goes on to state
Quote:
Estimates indicate there could be tens of thousands of pythons slithering around the Everglades.
So with tens of thousands of pythons roaming Florida, not ONE has been captured or killed? Seems like it's time to modify that estimate.

Mother Nature might have taken care of killing the non-native pest. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the state's unseasonably cold winter weather is believed to have killed up to 50 percent of the pythons.
Hardin said nine out of 10 pythons that scientists had been tracking with radio collars in Everglades National Park apparently died from the weather.
How do they assume that only 50% were killed when the next line says that 9 out of 10 died...
Re: End of python hunting season...
I know. In an earlier article that I posted, it stated that "nearly 60 percent of 99 snakes that were spotted were still alive".
Pretty amazing that people who paid $26 for a hunting permit couldn't find even one of the 60 percent of "tens of thousands" of snakes.
It's pretty sad to think that bills are being pushed through with such flaky data and estimates.

The 9 out of 10 referred to pythons that were chipped so they could be tracked I'm assuming.
I think it's entertaining that they say 10's of thousands of pythons are in the everglades but weren't even able to find 1! I think they need to get their facts right!

There was at least one caught and killed. The pictures were posted on redtailboas.com and it was just a day or so after the season started.

This is funny. I want to know what happened to the HUNDREDS of Thousands we heard about on the news. Now its just tens of thousands. Hmmmmm! I think there is some back pedaling going on here. If this continues you can watch it drop from the scene because it has become a non-issue.
Re: End of python hunting season...
how was this the first season? they hunted them last year. and out of the hundred's of thousands, they only came up with 18.
