Removing female from eggs
How do you safely remove female from eggs without damaging them and stressing her out to the point of striking at you? What are some of your techniques and tips?
Thanks.
Re: Removing female from eggs
Grab her head and gently unwind her from around the eggs. Place her in a waiting bin and tend to the eggs. After the eggs are in the incubator, clean up the female and place her in a clean bin.
Sometimes it helps to place a rag or towel over the females head if she is particularly feisty or if you are a little skittish. :)
Re: Removing female from eggs
I just reach in and grab them behind the head, then unhook their tail from around the eggs (They generally uncoil quite a big when you grab them).
A feisty girl gets a hand towel over her head first. Some ball pythons are 'really good moms' and will be ready to kill you as soon as you open the bin, lol. Don't fret over it too much--as soon as you have them off the eggs, they forget why they were upset.
Re: Removing female from eggs
I use a small towel or paper towel to drap over the female's head. Keeps her calm and keeps me from being bitten. Works everytime. I grab her behind the neck gently, through the towel, and unwind her from the eggs.

I use a pillow case or towel over the snake to reduce the stress. I get a lot of hissing but thats about it. Remove the mom to holding bin tend to eggs then clean the bin and mom and return her to bin.

I just place a pillowcase over the female and then gently but expediently uncoil her. I just try and keep in mind that she is likely very sore and respect that.

the eggs are usually stuck to each other so place a small towel over her head carefully take her off the eggs. Mark the very top of each egg. Then I candle each egg looking for pink veins. you can then weigh them and get them into the incubator. Now you need to clean her enclosure to remove the egg smell. she also needs to be clean, I use dawn dish soap for her and wash her real good with it. make sure you rinse her good to remove all the soap, use luke warm water. This will usually get them back on feed within a few days.
