Which woods are bad for BPs?
Im going to make a rack here in a couple weeks and was wondering which wood is poisonous for BPs?
I know every one uses melamine but its so heavy and expensive so I was trying to find a cheaper lighter material. I was thinking about PVC but home depot dosnt have it (got money to build it as a gift in the form of gift cards).
Well after its stained and aired out should it matter? all the toxins in the wood would be sealed in. but I dont wanna rish it thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Which woods are bad for BPs?
Definitely do not use cedar.
Pine is a bit debated. If it is well sealed it shouldn't be an issue but I would use something else just to be safe.
Melamine isn't really all that expensive if you consider what you are getting, pre-sealed waterproof shelves. Sealing every piece of wood for a rack is going to be a long process.
I know home depot does carry other kinds of shelving that isn't just white melamine. It is still melamine, but it is sealed with a wood like finish which looks quite nice. I used it on my rack.

no, thye just dont like me. after I told them how many animals I had. and they told me no breeding what so ever, so this is more to hide the breeding.
Re: Which woods are bad for BPs?
I cant imagine anything treated could be used either.

Do the toxins release after being heated up at 100 degrees on the heat pad surface? This might be an issue with treated wood i'd imagine.

I thought he meant treated as in sealed, my bad.
