Young snakes going of feed during winter?

It is well known that many, if not most, adult breeding ball pythons will go off feed during the winter, breeding months. My question is, will snakes that are not being bred, or too small/young to breed, sense this cooler time of year and go off feed as well?

All my snakes that have been breeding are not eating now. Males or females. Most of my smaller, younger snakes are still eating normally. Except a couple.

I mainly developed this question because of one of my sub-adult female pastels. I got her when she was around 200g, and she is now just under 900g. She has ALWAYS been a pig when it came to eating. Never missed a meal and would eat anything and everything. Just in the past few months, she has ceased eating. She has taken maybe 3 small meals in the past 3 months.

She has not been anywhere NEAR a male. My only guess is, since she is in the same rack as my breeders, that she took the slightly cooler temps. as an onset to breeding season and lost much of her interest in food. Have any of you seen this with your sub-adult snakes during the winter?

Or maybe she's just on a good old fashioned feeding strike....

It's pretty common for subadults to go off feed. A lot of my sub adults gave me issues this year. They would NOT take frozen thawed, absolutely refused week after week. They took live for me alright, but some would even refuse that every now and again.

I've heard that if you keep them in the same room as breedable snakes they smell the pheromones and can be tough feeders. I don't know if that's entirely true, but that's what I've heard.

All of my sub-adults are eating like pigs but then again I don't allow temps to drop at all even on my breeders.
If you lowered the temps your assumption might be right, OR she may have just hit that infamous 1000 gram wall that some females hit?

Oh no, I forgot about that 1000 gram wall :( I hope my girls quit being picky and get over this hump!!!

Hey there I wouldn't worry about it too much it is more than likely they have hit the "Wall" it usually happens between 800-1200 grams. I think I have only had 1 or 2 girls (that were eating machines) that didn't hit this wall but all the rest did. I had 2 females that was hoping to go this season that hit this wall in november and killed any chances of that :sigh2:. They were both around 1100-1200 grams, they have both just started to feed again. It can be fustrating but there ball's so what can you do....

I have no experience with, nor have ever heard of, this "wall." Basically you're saying many females will slow down on their eating around the 1000g range? So that is a common occurance? If so, I wonder why..

I have yet to experience this "wall" myself but have several friends bouncing off that wall right now :P
It's a fairly common occurrence from what I read, for some reason my girls never read the brochure :banana:
I hope I don't jinx myself tho, lol, I have 4 girls approaching that wall and I'm hoping like their older sisters they blast right through it :please:

Yes the "wall" is what it is reffered to when a sub adult python will go off feed usually around 1000 grams. If your females don't go through this consider yourself lucky as it cause rapid hair loss to those of us who do go thru it.. lol :taz: I have only had a couple of females not hit this wall altough I wish they all didn't... :please:

Well, how long does this "wall" usually last..?
